What do you think that mavericks are looking to do this off season? they never play their rookies and have no good young players anymore. What trades or free agent pickups could go on here?

Andre: Hey good question. I think of Lamar Odom as the weak link of the lakers, and he is a free agent at the end of the 09 season. That makes his expiring contract a big plus for someone. I personally think Lamar Odom, isn't that great a player. I look at his basketball skills, and with his lack of an outside game, he is lacking what his size dictates (his game makes me think of a center that is too short to be a center).

I don't think Jamison is a good upgrade for them, because who ever they get is going to have to play Small Forward (with Bynum and Gasol, taking the 5 and 4 respectively). So I think Artest could definetly be the guy. Sacramento could send away their sometimes problem child, and get back a player who can contribute and start, and they would then be able to either resign Odom or just let his contract expire (but not have the Artest headache). Lakers get the small forward they need, who can be a great defender, but can still score.

Maggette is a possibility too, but it would require a sign and trade deal with the Clippers, and I don't think they are going to want to do that with their in house rivals.

I think another big possibility is James Posey. Posey showed that he is the perfect fit for that team. He brings the 3 point shooting ability of a Derek Fischer and the devensive abilities of trevor ariza (who unfortunately can't shoot). So expect them to maybe trade Odom for an expiring contract, and take Posey off of free agency. That would be ideal, because then they can resign Bynum next year (with Artest they won't have the money to sign both).

Hey Stephen after a great run to the finals, do the Lakers keep Lamar Odom or let him go and pick up either Maggette, Artest????, or Jamison? I dont know if any of them are that much of an upgrade except for artest but I dont know if he's worth the risk... Then again phil did tame Rodman!!!

vishal: Sorry man, I don't think that the Raptors are going to be able to have the payroll to pay a guy like Kurt Thomas, Antwan Jamison, and Gilbert Arenas. They aren't going to have a lot of caproom, once they resign Jose Calderon. They could possibly nab Arenas if they traded ford to the Wizards though. And maybe they could sign Thomas, but not if they grabbed Arenas because they would be well over the cap.

As for the Heat. If Marion doesn't opt out, the Heat don't have a lot they can do. Their best bet, would be to draft their guy, and make moves around that. For example, if the Heat made a deal with Seattle, who could move up and acquire Micheal Beasley, they could still draft OJ Mayo, and pick up Chris Wilcox to play Center, while shipping out Marcus Banks. It would be as good a pick up as they can get, and a backcourt of Wade and Mayo, could be really good. Marion and Wilcox will provide low post scoring, and Haslem can keep eating up rebounds. It's probably the best they can get. They would probably also end up with Seattle's second pick in the first round. With that one, they should trade it to someone, but force them to take Mark Blount's contract.

This would also free up space for the heat to resign Marion, and have room to resign Wade to a max deal in summer '10.

Starters: PG. OJ Mayo, SG. Dwayne Wade, SF. Shawn Marion, PF. Udonis Haslem, C. Chris Wilcox.

Bench: PG. Chris Quinn, SG. Daquan Cook, SF. ??? 2nd round pick, PF. Alexander Johnson, C. Joel Anthony

So thats my bet for the Heat, if Marion opts out, you should look at my 2008-09 NBA Outlook at the Heat.
